World's Undisputed Lightweight Champions Ever

Only few boxers in the world are considered undisputed champions. A world professional boxing champion simply won a belt from any of the four recognized professional boxing associations in the world such as International Boxing Federation or IBF, World Boxing Association or WBA, World Boxing Council or WBC and World Boxing Organization or WBO while an undisputed professional world boxing champion unified all the existing belts from all the recognized professional boxing associations in the world.

1. Roberto Duran

One of the most popular and legendary boxers of all time is the Panamanian Roberto Duran. He was the undisputed lightweight champion of the world from January 21, 1978 to January 1979. He is one of the greatest boxers of all time and was chosen by the Ring Magazine in 1989 as the 5th greatest fighter of all-time. He fought for five decades and registered wins from the 1960s to 2000s.

2. Ismael Laguna

Ismael Laguna is a well decorated boxer from Panama. He was the undisputed lightweight champion of the world for two times. He was the WBA & WBC champion from April 10, 1965 to November 13, 1965. He held the WBA & WBC belts again from March 3, 1970 to September 15, 1970. This boxing hall of famer is known as "El Tigre Colonense".

3. Ken Buchanan

Ken Buchanan is a British boxer who became the undisputed lightweight champion in the world from February 12, 1971 to June 25, 1971. He is regarded as the greatest boxer from Scotland.

4. Pernell Whitaker

Pernell Whitaker is one of the most prolific American boxers. He held the WBA, WBC & IBF lightweight belts from August 11, 1990 to January 18, 1992. As an amateur boxer, he was an Olympic silver medalist. He was Ring magazine’s “fighter of the year” in 1989.

5. Armando Ramos

The Mexican-American Armando Ramos was the world’s undisputed lightweight champion of the world from February 18, 1969 to March 3, 1970

6. Carlos Cruz

Carlos Cruz, regarded as one of the best fighters from the Dominican Republic, was the undisputed lightweight champion of the world from June 29, 1968 to February 18, 1969.

7. Carlos Ortiz

Carlos Ortiz, a 3 time world boxing champion from Puerto Rico, is the undisputed lightweight champion of the world for two years from April 7, 1963 to April 10, 1965.
