Floyd Mayweather Jr and Canelo Alvarez Weigh In
So, this is the day before the fight of the century. Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Canelo Alvarez. The fight that all boxing fans have been waiting for. It's a fight that's happening at a catch weight of 152 lbs between two undefeated fighters. Floyd brings ring expertise, experience and savvy to the ring while Alvarez brings youth and stamina and power with him. It's the clash of the titans.
But before the big bout, a weigh-in is always necessary. Floyd came in with his usual array of cronies and bling blings while Canelo came in at a much more simple manner. What's interesting to note is the number of audience that came - 12,200! It's one of the biggest weigh ins in boxing history with each person cheering for his or her fighter and jeering the other. It was like England. Only it happened in the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The atmosphere was surreal and electric and it serves as a preview of what could happen in the actual fight tomorrow.
So what did the fighters weigh? Both fighters made weight with Canelo Alvarez coming in at 152 lbs while Floyd Mayweather came in at 150.5 lbs. It's also important to note that Mayweather normally fights at 147 lbs while Alvarez normally fights at 154 lbs. It's still unclear on who would really benefit at the weigh in but we'll see tomorrow.
After the weigh in, the stare down followed. The fighters came face to face with Floyd chewing his gum and making different banters here and there and everywhere. Canelo was calm and composed. As Floyd kept on yapping and yapping, Canelo just couldn't hide a smile from his face. This shows one thing - he is ready no matter what Floyd throws at him. 1-0 for Canelo
After the staredown, the fighters are supposed to get their pictures taken with both of them facing the cameras. Floyd tried to give Canelo his beld but Canelo simply shrugged it off. He just posed and showed his tiger look to the crowd. That's 2-0 for the 23 year old Alvarez.
Mayweather is known to break down his opponents mentally hours before the fight with his talk and antics. Mind games are his thing. But in this weigh in, in this stage, Floyd has been beaten in his game. The calm Canelo was able to weather the storm and push through as a winner. But of course, all that matters now is the fight tomorrow. Who will come out on top? I'm going for the underdog on this one.
